Inclusive and Equitable Post-Secondary Education

Welcome to the Centre of Expertise on Equitable and Inclusive Post-secondary Education. This Centre is a collaboration between Simon Fraser University and STEPS Forward, through its BC Initiative for Inclusive Post-Secondary Education.

The Centre's purpose is to be an information resource for practitioners, educators, researchers, individuals, and families interested in knowing more about, and contributing to, a canon of knowledge about the practice of inclusive post-secondary education.

The Centre will focus on curating an online library of information about, and producing research on, inclusive and equitable post-secondary education.

Inclusive and Equitable Post-Secondary Education:
  • Disrupts the typical understandings of developmental disabilities in ways that open up new possibilities for belongs, learning and contributing
  • Assumes students will access and engage in the same courses and opportunities to study, work, and play as any other student enrolled at their college or university.
  • Supports an authentic student experience which is coherent with those students who are gaining the greatest benefit from their education
  • Minimizes difference and seeks out the least difference making approaches to creating an inclusive and equitable classroom and individual student experiences
  • Embeds the student's experience in relationships, activities, routines, and rhythms of the campus by building alliances.
